Painted Trim

I did something cuh-razy this weekend.  Friday evening I went to adult dance class.  Yes that's crazy, but that's not what I'm talking about.  On the way home from dance, I stopped at Home Depot to buy white paint so I could begin the long journey of painting our wood trim and doors.  I told you it was crazy.

When we bought our house two and a half years ago, the one thing I had to look past was the wood trim.  I've always loved white woodwork so I was bummed when this house didn't have it.  You win some, you lose some.  I figured that someday down the road we'd hire someone to paint it all white.  I even asked a friend for the number to his painting guy last week.  We didn't end up calling him for a quote because I couldn't imagine forking out money for a job I could do myself.  No matter how daunting it seemed.  Which brings me to Friday.  I made the decision to paint the trim on my own, one room at a time, starting with the family room.

When the walls and doors were dark and light brown, the woodwork blended right in.  But as soon as the walls were painted light gray and the doors yellow, it stuck out like a sore thumb.  Worse, actually.  It was the first thing I noticed when I looked around the room, and apparently I couldn't take it anymore.

Saturday morning, things started to look a whole lot brighter in here.  It took three coats to cover the wood completely and I used Behr Ultra White Semi-gloss paint with primer.  Overall, it wasn't as bad as I was imagining.  Tedious yes, but totally doable in a day.

So without further adieu, here's our family room now.

Here are similar views of the old and new for ya, because who doesn't love a good before and after shot?

I have a long road of trim painting ahead of me, but I'm so glad I took the plunge.  One room down, too many to go.  Pin It

  1. Looks great!! I also love that your pup is in the same spot in the before and afters :)

  2. Thanks! Ha-I didn't even realize that when I posted them, that's hilarious!
